MORE Rumble at Ridgecrest - September 16, 2006 - FIRST Place in Class, 5th Overall

Over the past three years, the 3G racing team has been on the cusp of winning countless times only to have a mechanical failure late in the race ruin a great run. Racing in Ridgecrest for the first time in over 5 years, Tom Craig and Dave Girdner teamed up with a skeleton pit crew and brought home the teams first win since 2003.

Starting 9th off the line in class 1600, Dave passed three cars in the first three miles of the race! The new engine rules for 2006 allow the use of dual port heads but there has been a learning curve amongst the engine builders in trying to get the maximum performance out of this new configuration. Jones' Barn Burner Racing Engines has found the sweet spot and has worked with 3G Racing to give the team an absolutly awesome power plant.

Somewhere along the dusty, single-trail course Dave passed two more cars to end lap one in 4th position on course and just a few seconds off the leader on corrected time. Dave powered by another competitor at the beginning of lap two and another near the end of the lap to move up to second place. While Dave was battling the dust and traffic moving through the pack, Curt Geer was running out front in clean air and put several minutes on Dave over laps 2 and 3.

Dave brought the car to the drivers change/fuel stop in 2nd place about 6 minutes off of the lead car and 2 minutes ahead of 3rd place. With a quick 1 minute 19 second pit stop, Tom was on his way and determined to pickup time on the leader. And that he did. Tom started picking up time on Geer and for once, luck was on 3Gs side. At the start of lap 7, Tom had closed the gap to just under 5 minutes behind Geer physically, which on corrected time was just under 4 minutes when the team got the break they had been waiting for for the past 3 years - Geer had a flat tire allowing Tom to assume the lead!

Once Tom got in the front, there was no looking back and he cruised to the finish line with nearly 5 minutes over second place!
