Capping off an amazing season, 3G Racing's Dave Girdner and Tim Craig shared the driving duties of the team’s 1600 car and topped 18 competitors in the class to earn their fifth win of 2007 at the MORE Toys for Tots Holiday 200 on December 1st in Barstow Ca. With five class wins and one second place finish on the year, the team captured both the Class 1600 Points Championship as well as the MORE Overall Points Championship!
Dave was the 6th 1600 to take the green flag. With over an inch of rain falling across the desert during the 24 hours before the race, drivers faced yet another challenge: mud. Lots and lots of mud! Unable to keep the mud-covered helmet shield clean, Dave resorted to opening up the shield, which helped until the mud found its way into his eyes! Dave completed the first lap and turned the car over to Tim in about 7th place, two laps earlier than planned.
Armed with all the towels and rags he could hold, Tim set off to run down the rest of the field. Tim proved yet again that he is one of the top drivers in the class as he moved up to second place after just 30 miles. Tim reeled in the leader over the next two laps, taking the lead for good with about 70 miles remaining in the race. From there he was able to cruise to capture the checkered flag!
During this amazing run this year, the team had just one flat on their Mickey Thompson Tires and no mechanical failures in over 1500 miles of racing thanks to the great parts and service from their partners, a tremendous amount of preparation, and a little bit of luck along the way.
Since its debut in May 2006, the red single seat car, which was built and is prepped in-house by Tom Craig and his son Tim, has recorded ten podium finishes - including six class victories - in just fourteen races. Next up for 3G Racing is the Pro1600 season finale in Primm, Nevada on December 29th. Currently sitting in 4th place in the Pro1600 point standings, the team will compete against top 1600 teams from across multiple series in a unique three heat race with only class 1600 cars.
