|
While our year ended on a sour note with a DNF on our home course, it was a very successful initial campaign with 2 wins, a third, and a fourth and a 2nd place finish in class points in MORE despite running only 4 of the 6 points races.

SNORE/MORE "Battle at Barstow": DNF There was a huge turnout for this race with 30+ 1600 entered. Tim started this race and was quickly moving through the pack from his 28th starting position. Tim moved up to the top-10 midway through lap two and was making a strong push towards the front. Just 3 miles into lap 3, while in 8th place on the track, something in the motor broke, sending a rod through the case and ending our day.

Mojave 250: 1st in Class - 3rd Overall
I started the race with my 14 year-old cousin, Jeremy Craig, riding shotgun in just his second race. We were second off the line behind 1621, Sean DeFrank, and just in front of 1661, Bob Wiederhold. Running on familiar turf, just a few miles from where we grew up, is always fun and provides for a little bit of a "home field advantage" even if it is just being able to sleep in a familiar bed the night before. With some heavy rains since the July race, the course had changed rather drastically. (Continued)... |

MORE Freedom 250: 3rd in Class
On a relatively cool July afternoon, we attacked the Barstow desert along with 3 other 1600s. Due to a few minor engine and transmission woes over the first 4 laps, we fell behind. Our engine troubles were fixed at the driver change and Tim made a strong charge to the front. There weren't enough laps left though to catch the leaders and we finished just 3 minutes out of second.

Ridgecrest 300: 4th
in Class - 6th Overall
Coming off a disappointing DNF at Buffalo Bills in March where we broke a transmission, we decided to get the car prepped and race the MDR Ridgecrest 300 just three weeks later. With the large field (22 cars) and length of the race, we requested a rear start and were the last 1600 to take the green flag. I (Dave) started the race at the wheel of 1622 with my college roommate, Kevin Henrikson, along for the ride in his very first race. Within the first 2 miles we picked up 2 spots as we passed some unfortunate classmates already out of the race. (Continued)... |

SNORE Buffalo Bill's 400: DNF With just one race under our belts, we decided to take our car and skills to test them against some of the best 1600 competition around at the SNORE Buffalo Bill's 400. After moving up 4 positions in the first lap, our run ended prematurely as the ring and pinion disintegrated after 130 miles. |

Badlands 250: 1st
in Class - 2nd Overall
Four and a half months after deciding to team up and build a race car, we were ready to race. While MORE is one of the smaller series, there is great competition and even better payback. This race consisting of 12-20 mile laps, would provide valuable experience without the threat of getting run over by some Trophy Truck. I started the race with my only goal being to get the car to my cousin Tim in one piece. (Continued)... |
